12 Week Challenge


Week 1

Here we go.  I have never written a blog before.  Well not one that I have published anyway.  My name is Matt and I am the Marketing manager for MokFit.  Now working in the fitness industry, you would think I would be fit and healthy.  Well that’s not the case.  I drink to much over the weekend, I eat OK, though not really over the weekends and I can’t get up in the mornings, well I can, though not at the crack of dawn when I want to.

When it comes to fitness I run a bit, though to go longer then 3 Kilometers without stopping is near on impossible.  I know some people will say, “Well I can’t run more then 100 Meters without getting puffed” so I have to say I am not entirely unfit, but let’s say, I have a lot of room for improvement.  For my height, I am classified as a little overweight. I jumped on the scales this morning and registered 79 Kilograms, it should be more like 74Kg to be anywhere close to were I should be and my waist is around 100 Inches, which is way too big for my height.

So here are my details

Age: 40

Height: 177Cm

Weight: 79.8 KG

Waist: 100 Inches.

Where I would like to get to or should be is.

Weight: 74 Kg

Waist: 94 Inches

As part of the challenge I want to also make a change to my daily routine.  Changes I will be making

  • Going to bed by 10:30pm
  • Rising at 6:30am
  • Going for a run or doing some exercise before work
  • Stretching before bed and
  • Eating healthy over the weekends

So why am doing the 12-week challenge.  Well yes, it’s too loose weight and to shrink the waist line, I also want to challenge myself.  I want to see where challenging myself takes me.  Does doing regular exercise change my outlook on life, make me more productive at work or give me more energy and make me sleep better at night.  These are the types of things I want to find out.

During the 12 weeks, I will be trying to change some of my habits like, drinking too much alcohol over the weekend, eating well during the week then throwing it all out the door on the weekends and getting up late in the mornings.  I do plan on taking a month off alcohol as well as trying more vegetarian based foods for diner.  I am really quite excited as to how we will feel after the 12 weeks.

During the 12-week challenge, I will write about my experience and some of the challenges that come up along the way.  I will share my location, the people I meet and the exercises I do.  At the end of the 12 weeks, I will sum up my experience and see if it was worth putting all the effort in.  For a long time I have put off doing these challenges primarily because of my concern of getting to the end and finding I did not gain from doing it.  Well that indeed might happen.  But to be honest, I think just finishing the challenge in itself will be a reward.

I know I am not going to be perfect.  I am going to give the challenge a shot though and see where it takes me.  Hopefully I will make the changes I want and they will be beneficial for me for now and into the future.
